About ‘Tommy’

‘Tommy’ tells the story of a young child trapped in a power struggle between his parents. His parents are unable to protect him from their sentiments and emotions; instead, they burden him with responsibility and expectation that is far beyond his capacity to cope.

In the Family Law context, for many children, transitions can be particularly difficult, and the transmission of parental emotions can have a profound impact on the child's ability to integrate with their parents and their extended families and enjoy a sense of belonging, thus leading to issues such as the rejection of a parent. Whilst ‘Tommy’ is a piece of fiction, the story depicts the reality for many children.

Darren Mort said “Tommy has now been embedded in a high conflict model ‘Families in Transition’ used in Court and by practitioners across the USA in and out of Court. This short film is making such a difference in the lives of children, and we are all proud of this outcome”.
